About Kampala
Kampala is built across a series of hills, each historically tied to a kingdom, a faith or an institution — the old Buganda capital at Mengo, the Kasubi Tombs, Old Kampala's mosque, Namirembe's cathedral. It's also Uganda's commercial and government centre, which is why most of Asante's VIP and corporate charter work starts or ends here rather than at a park.
Kasubi Tombs, the burial ground of the Buganda kings and a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the view from Gaddafi National Mosque's minaret across the whole city are the two fixed points most visits build around.
Beyond the history, Kampala runs on its own energy — markets, restaurants, live music and a business district that functions like any other regional capital, useful context before or after time in the parks.
